“PAINTER” (Melvino As…), DNA, Fabric, Resin. 64” x 38” ( 163 cm x 97 cm), 2017

OCCUPATIONS is a series of portraits, set as placements in an exhibition space. Each portrait contains the sitter’s DNA-laden clothing, as a portion of their essence, which also forms the self-made color palette of each work. Each of these placements exposes exhibition viewers to an occupation held by the sitter.

The two portrait paintings, shown here as “PAINTER” and “CERAMICIST”, represent Melvino Garretti’s presence and persona, as an artist whose repertoire often includes the creation of ceramic works, paintings, and performances.
